(1940, Republic) Roy Rogers, Bob Steele, Noah Beery Jr, Gabby Hayes. One of the slickest Republic westerns you'll ever see (feels lika an "A" western). Roy plays the mysterious title outlaw trying to track down the murderer of his brother. Beery plays the gullible drifter who gets hoodwinked in a poker game. Best of all though, is Steele in a rare, top-of-the-line portrayal as a slick, shrewd, ruthless villain. This one's a keeper. Highly recommended. 16mm.
