(1920) Lon Chaney, Priscilla Dean, Wheeler Oakman, Ralph Lewis. Lon was famous for his dual roles, this time he delivers a dual performance as Ah Wing, a good-natured student of Confucian philosophy, and Black Mike Sylva, a vile, murderous rat who hovers over the San Francisco underworld. The climactic fist fight is extremely well-done and quite violent for the early years of Hollywood. One of Chaney's best crime thrillers and one that cemented him as an upcoming major star. Directed by Tod Browning, who would go on to direct Dracula and other horror classics. Music score. From 16mm.
