(1916) This is a truly remarkable early silent science fiction classic. A massive comet approaches Earth. It narrowly misses our planet, but causes enormous upheaval, including massive rioting and all kinds of social unrest. Even worse, the planet is torn by major physical disasters, including massive floods. Some of the flood scenes are remarkably real and appear to have possibly been shot in actual flood situations. The Earth is essentially destroyed in this forgotten film from the World War One era. Engrossing from start to finish. A must. From 35mm.
