(1944, Upgraded 4/28/24) Evelyn Dall, Tommy Handley, George Moon, Felix Aylmer. This is a marvelous sci-fi comedy about a quirky professor who’s invented a combo spaceship/time machine. It’s a great big silver sphere with lots of nifty sci-fi gadgetry inside. He and a couple of Broadway stars and a well-known con man shoot off into outer space. When they land back on Earth they find themselves in London, circa 1650. There, they fall into a series of misadventures. The professor is sent to the Tower because of treasonous predictions of the future. Meanwhile Handley is busy conning the British Royals. Dall is as cute as a bug as a wise-cracking Broadway singer. This movie, in addition to being a cool sci-fi film, is very funny. Handley and Dall never seem to run out of great one-liners. The outer space special effects are very good for the time. Dall sings a number of snappy numbers, too. Great fun from start to finish. 35mm
