(1958) Toto, Sylva Koscina, Ugo Tognazzi. An enjoyable off-beat sci-fi comedy about aliens who try to stop the launching of a man into space. Lots of intrigue and some genuine laughs. The final scenes on the moon are quite well done. Look for some luscious, scantily-clad babes. A chunk of the film is in English, most of it is in Italian with English subtitles. From a beautiful 35mm widescreen print. Also included (at the start of the disc): clips from Deepest Freeze. The story behind these clips is a strange one. We got a phone call years ago from a customer who saw a sci-fi film named Deepest Freeze on TV back in the early ‘60s with Allison Hayes & Gerald Mohr. Similar to The Thing, it took place in Antarctica with a scientific team threatened by a female space alien. The customer, as a child, shot 4 minutes of the film off his TV screen with his silent 8mm camera. He transferred the film to VHS and sent us the tape years ago. We transferred it to DVD with an accompanying music score. Hayes is a beautiful alien who is threatened by heat. A strange glowing orb seems to give her power. The climax shows her destruction and slow disintegration. The B&W footage is murky, but very interesting, making us hope that someday the full film will come to the surface.
