Sci Fi I EAT YOUR SKIN
(1964) William Joyce, Heather Hewitt, Dan Stapleton, Walter Coy. From a great 35mm print. This movie is pure, lovable, unsterilized low-budget ‘60s schlock. Although we’ve had it on VHS for years, this is a film we recently ‘discovered,’ having never actually viewed it until lately. A playboy writer and his publisher fly to a remote Caribbean island filled with strange goings-on, hoping for the inspiration to a new book. There they find a mad scientist trying to perfect a cancer cure using snake venom. Inside his lab he zaps the venom with radiation before injecting it into the natives, which of course turns them into raving zombies. There are scientifically-induced zombies running all over the island. The men-into-zombies transformation scenes are really pretty cool. Naturally there’s a secret plot to create a zombie army to overrun the world. The “flare-gun” scene is a bit of a jolt. Hewitt is gorgeous, and Joyce does a pretty good job as the hero. Lots of brassy, schlocky ‘60s music helps set the mood. Bikini-clad beauties pop up everywhere. It just doesn’t get any better than this. From the man who gave us Horror at Party Beach. 35mm.
