(1930) Bessie Love, Ned Sparks, Hugh Trevor. A woman and her assistant D.A. brother are battling against a clever gang of dope dealers. When the woman kills the gang leader in self-defense, she ends up hiding out in a women’s rooming house. There she teams up with a reporter who wants to help her. Things get very complicated after her brother is kidnapped by the gang. Sparks has a great role as a crotchety old mystery writer who wears a cape and a black hat, just like The Shadow. A very good early crime film. From 16mm.
