This film is a loose reworking of It Happened One Night with a murder mystery element thrown in for good measure. Libaire is the spoiled daughter of an aristocrat who flees to the countryside when she discovers her father is engaged to a woman she loathes. Manners plays an ex-con who drives her about the countryside in a touring car as she avoids her father and her fiancée-of-the-moment, well played by Gallagher. Like Gable and Colbert, the two soon fall in love, but when Manners is arrested for the murder of a crime boss, things get dicey. This is a great grade B thriller with fine performances. From 16mm.
