(1949) Rene Deltgen, Hilde Weissner, and Gustav Knuth. Deltgren is great as the title character,Tromba, who has a bizarre circus tiger act. The secret to his act's success is his actual use of hypnosis on his tigers. However, in addition to the tigers, Tromba begins using this technique--along with a special drug--to render good-looking women to his will. Things get very tense when one of his female cast-offs comes looking for a very wrathful slice of revenge. This is one of the most unusual Euro-thrillers we have ever seen, filled with dark characters and moody music, sprinkled into the bawdy complexities of circus life. A really cool movie in it's own, mysteriously sleazy way and one of those steamy B&W films that never would have worked in color. From 16mm.
