(1963, Updated 4/28/22) Boris Karloff, Jack Nicholson, Sandra Knight, Dick Miller, Jonathan Haze. Jack’s a wandering soldier who traces a ghostly lady to the castle of a mysterious baron played by you-know-who. Strange, supernatural things begin to happen. This certainly is one of the most underrated of Corman’s horror films of the ‘60s with incredible atmosphere and lush colors. The shocking climax is unforgettable. The opening credits are remniscent of the same style of credits Corman used in his '50s sci-fi films like The Brain Eaters and Beast with a Million Eyes. We recently viewed this film for the first time in many years and had forgotten how good it was. Beautiful color, from 35mm.
