(1931, 1941, Upgraded 10/14/21)) Arthur Askey, Richard Murdock, Kathleen Harrison, Carole Lynn. What we have here are both versions of the famed British ghost story classic. Hulbert starred in the ’31 version, while Askey took honors in the ’41 edition. There are only five reels of the 1931 version known to exist, and only the last two reels have sound. Our video master came from a foreign source and was obviously taped directly off a screen. However, the quality, while not optimum, is still very watchable. This is an incredibly rare and coveted horror film. The plot for both films concerns a group of people who are gathered at a lonely railway station, supposedly haunted by a ghost train. Hulbert and Askey of course bring a light-hearted touch to the films, which are for the most part serious and chilling. The scene where the ghost train zooms by the station is very memorable indeed. From 35mm.
