(1934, Updated 5/15/25) Basil Sydney, Molly Lamont, Robert Cochran, Alfred Sangster, Adela Mavis, Ian Flemming. A fine old dark house thriller, similar in some ways to Boris Karloff's The Ghoul. Several people gather in a lonely mansion, some good, some evil, all seeking the sacred jewels of Algotti. The only problem is the one person who knows the jewels' hiding place is murdered early in the film! It's them up to the various protagonists and antagonists to solve the "third clue," which will reveal the jewels' secret location, which lies somewhere withing the mansion. There are many eerie trappings: hidden compartments, underground chambers, and secret panels. Mavis is great as the oriental servant who is torn between her loyalty toward her British master and the mysterious cult who squeezes her for information. Creepy, with a distinctive music score. Cool. 16mm.
